Stumbled Upon a Great Interview...

Sorry there hasn’t been much going on since WCT. We have all been waiting word of the old flo crew’s next moves, and I have been too busy coaching to write anything new for a while; but luckily, summer league meets are fun, and they can attract all sorts of spectators. I was blessed enough to be introduced to a lady yesterday who was there to watch her niece. She just happened to also be a former american record holder who was happy to chat with me when I asked her. When I got home I googled her and found out that there is actually a Tammy Thomas award at KU, and I found a really great article in the Sports Illustrated archives that makes a pretty big deal of her breakthrough at the 1983 NCAA’s. In the interview we also talked a little about suits, and she had actually worn the old controversial Belgrade! How cool is that?
I guess love of the sport keeps a lot of us around the pool deck, and still wanting to talk about swimming years after our careers are over, and I am somehow blessed to get a chance to get some of them on camera for all you swim fans out there. Enjoy!

  2. I am pretty certain there will be an announcement soon. My lips are sealed until I get the word from the G himself that it is okay to open my big fat mouth. :)

  10. Tammy Thomas was very modest in that interview. She rocked! She was on the cover of some now defunct sports magazine and touted as having one of the 10 best bodies in all of sports. I'm sure if you brought that up she would have lauged about it. In fact, I think she was wearing one of those see through suits in the picture in the magazine.

    1. That's was US mag, which is where I 1st heard about her, & I distinctly remember her long nails, & how her 6-pack showed right through that suit! Have looked in vain for a post of that profile & pic,or ANY pics of her at all, & have only seen a B&W one of posted with her at the KU site. I was curious as to why she didn't give the Olympics a go, since she was that good.
