American feminists just aren't tackling the right issues...
Swedish women are apparently outraged by swimsuit discrimination. Topless women are being asked to leave public pools and beaches, and Sweden's feminists are sick and tired of being discriminated against.
Here are a couple of quotes from The Local:
"It's a question of equality. I think it's a problem that women are sexualized in this way. If women are forced to wear a top, shouldn't men also have to?"
"We want our breasts to be as 'normal' and desexualized as men's, so that we too can pull off our shirts at football matches," spokeswomen Astrid Hellroth och Liv Ambjörnsson told Ottar, a magazine published by the Swedish Association for Sexuality Education.
"We don't define what bathing suits men should wear so it doesn't make much sense to do it for women. And besides, it's not unusual for men to have large breasts that resemble women's breasts."
I have to say, they do have a point about covering up the man-boobs... but I think I will still take the feminist's side on the issue.
Another article claims they are even staging topless protests. TOPLESS PROTESTS! You mean, if I tell you that you can't take your top off you will get all your friends together and bare it all just to show me that you can? I don't even know what to say... except that Sweden is quite possibly the greatest place on earth.
I can only imagine the struggle in the soul of the poor young lifeguard who has to send these ladies home from the pool.
And here we are in the world of competitive swimming, wasting our time arguing about whether swimsuits should extend past the knees and shoulders. Silly swim teamers.
